Getting to a podiatry clinic can be difficult if you have reduced mobility, cannot drive or simply cannot manage the journey comfortably. SP Physiotherapy provides podiatry and chiropody home visits, bringing professional foot care directly to you.

Home visits can be particularly useful for older people, people with mobility difficulties and anyone who cannot safely manage their own foot and nail care. You do not need to be completely housebound to benefit from treatment at home.

Who can benefit from a podiatry home visit?

A home visit can make routine foot care much easier when reaching, seeing or caring for your feet has become difficult.

You may benefit from a home podiatry appointment if you:

  • Struggle to safely cut or maintain your toenails
  • Have painful corns or calluses
  • Have an ingrown toenail
  • Have thickened or fungal nails that need care
  • Are experiencing heel, arch or other foot pain
  • Have reduced mobility and find travelling to a clinic difficult
  • Need regular foot health checks and ongoing care
  • Would simply prefer to receive treatment in your own home

What does a podiatrist do during a home visit?

Your podiatrist will first ask about your general health, medications and any concerns with your feet. They will then examine your feet, nails and skin to identify what needs attention.

Treatment can often be carried out during the same appointment. Depending on your needs, this may include:

  • Toenail cutting and filing
  • Corn and callus reduction
  • Ingrown toenail assessment and conservative treatment
  • Verrucae treatment
  • Reduction and care of thickened nails
  • Advice about everyday foot care and footwear

SP Physiotherapy’s podiatrists bring the equipment needed for foot and nail treatment, with instruments either single-use or fully decontaminated between patients.

Can a podiatrist treat foot problems at home?

Yes. A home visit allows a podiatrist to assess many common foot and nail problems without you having to travel to the clinic.

If they identify an issue that requires treatment at the SP Physiotherapy clinic, such as nail surgery, they will explain this clearly and help arrange the appropriate next step. Nail surgery cannot be performed during a home visit because it requires local anaesthetic and appropriate clinical conditions.

How often do you need a home podiatry appointment?

The frequency of podiatry appointments depends on your individual needs. For routine foot care, appointments will often settle into a regular cycle, commonly around every six to ten weeks, depending on nail growth and what needs managing.

Your podiatrist will discuss an appropriate schedule with you rather than putting you onto a fixed package.

How do you arrange a podiatry home visit?

Podiatry home visits are arranged by phone rather than online. SP Physiotherapy will discuss your foot care needs, location and home circumstances before confirming the appointment length and price.

If managing your feet has become difficult or travelling to a clinic is no longer practical, contact SP Physiotherapy on 0141 266 0230 to discuss a podiatry home visit and find out how they can help you stay comfortable and maintain your foot health.
